When I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a teacher just like my mom. Years passed by, I met a lot of people and instances that inspired me to change route that leads me to be torn between being a director or a writer. These dreams of mine is not usually dreamt by most students. They would probably like to be in front of the camera rather than behind those cameras. They would prefer acting rather than thinking on how to formulate a good script and concept for a theater play or for movies. They would just buy books that they think they can relate to, rather than express their thoughts and feelings through writing and be published and be able to be read by thousands of people that can relate to what they intend to express and share.
Having these kind of dreams require patience, determination and willingness to learn. Patience for writing, for approval, to be picked and be on a team. It’s not just about being a good writer or has a good eye in every possible angle in a scene, it’s about how to make your viewers and readers feel what you want them to feel. For them to see what you want them to see. It’s a challenge to make them feel that they’re present in every scene I write and ever mood I will set on scene. Determination to give what the audience deserve. Determination to achieve these dreams in any obstacles that might be present on the way of fulfilling it. Willingness to learn and willingness to accept further judgement and critics.
One day I will wake and tell myself I wanted to be a director then the next day I’ll shift to being a writer. Being torn between two dreams is like choosing between a pack of Reese’s and a pack of Patchi. Two mouthwatering chocolate that I love to eat. It’s two enjoyable things to do that’s why it’s too hard to just pick one. But I remember that Lualhati Bautista once said that a good writer is a good director. Maybe the reason why I can’t choose between being a director and being a writer is that I can be both.
