Known as the home of Mayon Volcano, the perfect cone-shaped volcano, the residence of the Bicol Express, one of the hottest food in the country, and the shore of hottest beaches in the Philippines. WELCOME TO BICOL!
A 10 -12 hour drive from Metro Manila whether you ride a private cars or public buses. If you tend to commute, I suggest that you buy your ticket [back & fort] a week ahead of your scheduled getaway for a less stressful way of finding a bus line who offers a limited tickets for those who will buy their tickets on the spot. You can choose from ordinary buses [not air-conditioned], air-conditioned buses, deluxe buses who has its own comfort room inside the bus and the deluxe buses who offers lazy-boy couch as the passengers’ comfortable chair that comes with a small monitor just for yourself.

Aguirangan Island is considered to be as one of the virgin Islands of Camarines Sur. A 1 hour drive from the city proper of Naga is the town of Sabang, our boat pick-up point. From here, another 1 hour bout ride to reach the Aguirangan Island. The bout ride was fun and interesting because we witness how the color of the ocean change from green to blue to deeper blue and then back to blue. The Bangkero also pointed us the location of the Caramoan Island, he said that from Sabang, Caramoan is a 4-5 hour boat ride. A small sized white-sand beach who’s gradually making its name to beach goers. The perfect waves of the blue water that is too refreshing and inviting to handle. Every part of this Island is instagram worthy. There were nippa huts for rent that is available to used (150php) but if you feel like staying all night all, you can bring your own tent and make your own bonfire. Beach goers were advised to bring their own food because there is no store in the Island.
On our second day in Bicol, we travelled a 1 hour bus ride from Sabang going back to Naga where we are going to ride another bus to Albay and a jeepney ride to Cagsawa Ruins. Ofcourse who would missed their chance not to see the Famous Mayon Volcano. One

of my goals before going to Bicol aside from witnessing the Mt. Mayon, is to have a photo under their “sili shed”. I once saw it in two movies, Maja Salvador and Ryan Agoncillo’s My Kuya’s Wedding and Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla’s book adaptation film She’s Dating the Gangster. Luckily I saw one but sadly I can’t unload from the bus. The moment we enter the gate of the Cagsawa Ruins was magical. I told myself that “it’s just not in books and movies anymore”. The natives told us that we are lucky to witness Mt. Mayon without the clouds covering its beauty. The ”chili ice-cream” is a must try while looking at the scenic view of the volcano. Souvenir shops and karinderiaswere found at the side of the property. We tried the chili mango shake but failed to consume it because the chili really kicks in, hard.
It’s a wonderful adventure and a crossed out in everyone’s bucket-list. If you’re planning to get away of the stress the Metro is giving you, BICOL is a must go place. What are you waiting for, pack your things and book your tickets and hotel now. Summer is fast-approaching!
Wag maging dayuhan sa sariling bayan!
